At St. Rose School, the call for service to others is integrated into every classroom. Here is a sampling of the service projects we are involved in.
Ongoing School Projects:
Pumpkin Patch to support St. Vincent de Paul food pantry
Socktober to support Blanchet House
"Mac-n-Cheese and Tuna, Please" food drive for the parish's St. Vincent de Paul food pantry
Rice Bowl Project to support Catholic Relief Services
Classroom Service-Learning:
PK: works directly with St. Vincent de Paul and Giving Tree to support school projects.
Kindergarten: writes letters of support and encouragement to the religious sisters at Valley Catholic.
Grade 1: works to create "Care Kits" to support Blanchet House.
Grade 2: writes letters to our St. Rose of Lima homebound parishioners.
Grade 3: works with 4H to raise salmon and support stream ecology in Oregon.
Grade 4: has a conservation and sustainability focus while they take care of the garden and learn about the preservation of native plants and animals of Oregon.
Grade 5: works with Meals on Wheels.
Grade 6: collects new and gently used books for The Children’s Book Bank in NE Portland
Grade 7: has a local to global focus which supports our own school campaigns like the St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive and Operation Rice Bowl for Catholic Relief Services.
Grade 8: students focus on Mother and Child, Oregon Food Bank, Blanchet House, and our own parish Coffee and Donut events.
